Lentus Foods supplies 60 tons of cassava flour to Flour Mill



Lentus Foods and Agro Limited, a food-processing outfit based in Ugo in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, says it has so far supplied 60 tons of cassava flour to Flour Mills of Nigeria plc, an indication that local flour millers are tapping into the cassava flour initiative of the Federal Government to utilise locally processed cassava flour in their production.

BusinessDay checks also revealed that HoneyWell Flour Mills Limited, another big player in the flour milling sector, has started implementing the policy by accepting cassava flour from local processors.

The Federal Government’s policy of inclusion of about 40 per cent of cassava flour by flour manufacturers and in the production of bread and other confectionery is to encourage farmers to produce more, reduce import on wheat and create employment.

Lentus Foods plans 500 hectares of cassava farm

As part of policy to explore all facets of agricultural value chains, the management of Lentus Foods, an agro-allied firm located at Ugo community in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State plans to cultivate 500 hectares of cassava farm by 2015 fiscal year.

Donatus Imaghodor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company gave the hint in Benin City during the inspection of the cassava farmland already cultivated by the establishment by officials of the Edo State Nigeria Cassava Growers Association (NCGA).

Lentus Foods, which is into processing of cassava flour, starch, odourless fufu, Bendel garri and plantain flour, plans to introduce the “garri flake” which is a blend of garri, milk, sugar and milo, to the market by 2015 to ease students’ expenses on food.
